1920s Culture History 12

Outline Prior to last class, we began our American History unit by talking about the American Dream. Today, we are going to explore the culture of the 1920s. Our outline for today is: A short clip from the movie the Great Gatsby Question Development Research

Why ask questions? Asking questions is critical for both learning and life. By asking questions, we challenge what is presented to us and develop deeper understandings of our surroundings. Asking questions and digging for answers helps us sift through all the information we see – information we see at school, on tv, or on our phones - and allows us to weed out facts from “alternative facts”.

The Great Gatsby To start things off, we are going to watch a scene from the Great Gatsby. While you are watching this scene, I want you to write down some questions that you are curious about concerning the culture that is being depicted. nQ

Questions What questions did you come up with?

Inquiry The Great Gatsby is set in the 1920s of America and portrays the roaring culture of the time. Your task today is to use the questions we have developed to research the culture of the 1920s. Research and write down point form answers to at least 5 questions. Provide at least 3 points per question.

Summary Today we looked into the culture of the 1920s by exploring questions we developed. Tomorrow we will focus on some of the politics of the era by analyzing America’s isolationist stance.
