The School Day Please be punctual!

Enter school through the front gate.
Go through the back gate onto the EYFS playground. The nursery door is the 2nd along, up the steps. The school gate is on Gordon Road Nursery and Reception

If you arrive after 9am or 12:30pm , you are late!
Please sign in at the office.

Please make sure the teacher knows who is picking up

What does a ‘typical day’ look like?
Directed Time Children have ‘short-bursts’ of teacher-led sessions. All learning is based on play. Child Initiated

Outdoor Learning Children can choose when and where they want to play. We encourage outdoor play (outdoor learning) as much as possible. We go outside in all weathers. We provide your child with a set of wellington boots (wellies), waterproof coat and trousers.

School Uniform

Black leggings, trainers and jeans are not part of the uniform.
Big earrings are not allowed.

Your child will have a PE lesson every week.
You will need to provide shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a T-shirt, pumps and a PE bag. You can purchase a red t-shirt and red bag from the office. Red t-shirt Tracksuit bottoms Shorts Red draw-string bag Black plumps

Attendance Take your child to school every day.
If your child is poorly, please call the school office to inform us. If you need a day off for any other reason, fill out an Absence Form from the office. We expect 95% attendance from all children.

Give us any medicine or an inhaler if prescribed.
Please inform the office about any medical condition related to your child. Give us any medicine or an inhaler if prescribed. We do first aid but we don’t give any medicine without your permission.

Being Imaginative Play is absolutely essential. Children DO NOT need expensive toys. Please provide your child with daily play opportunities at home. DO NOT spend lots of money

Talk about everything and anything!
The Importance of Talk Talking is absolutely essential. The more you can talk, the more your child will learn. Talk about everything and anything! By age 3, children should be putting 3 words together e.g. me go toilet; me see mum

How often are you reading with
your child? Try to provide your child with books at home. Visit the library!

Singing and Nursery Rhymes
Children need good listening skills. Singing will help them to learn. Look for books with repetition Sing your own traditional songs and nursery rhymes.

Please encourage your child to hold pencils, pens, brushes, crayons..
Your child needs strong muscles! Have paper, pens and pencils at home for them to play with.

Finger Gym Make your own playdough! Flour and hair conditioner.

We have different classes for parents: ESOL English, art and craft, cooking… Come and join-in!

Toileting At the start of Nursery, toilet training should be well under way. Consistency is key!

Feeling worried? Anxious?....
Tell us if you have any worries or concerns about your child starting school. If your child has any special needs please tell us before they start so that we can prepare for their arrival and help them.
