D= = = 1. Calculate the density 100g mass 2g/mL volume 50mL
An object has the measurements of 100g and 50mL. What is it’s density? D= 100g mass = = 2g/mL volume 50mL
15
2. Calculate the Density D=m/v = 3.5g/1cm3 = 3.5g/cm3
16
D= = = 3. Calculate the density 128g mass .64g/mL volume 200mL
An object has the measurements of 128g and 200mL. What is it’s density? D= 128g mass = = .64g/mL volume 200mL
17
4. Calculate the Density D=m/v = 7.8g/1cm3 = 7.8g/cm3
18
5. What is the density of this substance?
mass volume 18g D= 3cm3 D= 6g/cm3 Pick any point! -hint, pick a point that has actual numbers on the axis so you don’t have to guess!
19
6. Which 2 objects have the same density? What is it?
Table below shows mass and volume for 3 objects (A, B & C) A B C Mass = 4g Mass = 6g Mass = 8g Volume = 2cm3 Volume = 6cm3 Volume = 4cm3 Formula for calculating density is D=m/v D=m/v =4g/2cm3 = 2g/cm3 D=m/v =8g/4cm3 = 2g/cm3
20
7. What is the density of this substance?
mass volume 100g D= 20cm3 D= 5g/cm3 Pick any point! -hint, pick a point that has actual numbers on the axis so you don’t have to guess!
21
8. Calculate the density of the object.
Mass = 16g Volume = 2cm*2cm*2cm = 8cm3 D = 16g/8cm3 = 2g/cm3 1g 2cm 2cm

Think back to simulations…
How does the speed of sinking related to the density of an object? Greater density = faster sink How can we get something to hover anywhere in a substance? Same density as the substance it is in

Density is a Constant Density is the same for any chunk of a substance! Every cm3 of glass has a mass of 2.5g! Every mL of vegetable oil has a mass of .91g! Every cm3 of Hydrogen has a mass of g! Mass Volume Density 3.3g 1cm3 3.3g/cm3 6.6g 2cm3 9.9g 3cm3 13.2g 4cm3 Mass goes up by the same proportion that volume does! Ratio of Mass to Volume stays the same!
