Technique 1: Imagery A technique in which a writer uses sensory details to convey an idea in a text. Most common: Visual Imagery - sensory details of sight Tactile Imagery - sensory details of touch Aural Imagery - sensory details of sound What examples of imagery appear in “How to Write the Great American Indian Novel”?

Technique 2: Tone Tone refers to a writer’s attitude toward his subject and audience Tone is often expressed in the connotation of words used Connotation - The feeling or emotion attached to a word (Hearts often connote love; guns often connote violence) What tone is Alexie presenting in “How to Write the Great American Indian Novel?” Provide an example to support your idea in the notes chart on your HW.
