SCOPE OF THE STUDY The mangrove dominated Indian Sundarbans is a natural laboratory for studying the impact of acidification on heavy metals primarily because of two reasons: (i) Intense industrialization and urbanization along the bank of the Hooghly estuary and (ii)Significant decadal variations of salinity and pH in the estuarine water These two reasons may be attributed to input and dynamicity of heavy metals in the system.
