2 Why change what we are doing?
QCA offers a framework – schools should feel they can select what is right for their school. Making D&T relevant: *Educationally *Personally *Creatively

3 Using existing QCA units Where do we start?
What should remain the same? Familiar format that is easily adaptable Long term planning model for all schools Progression within each unit and across age phases Learning intentions

4 Ways of Changing the QCA….
Use of an existing QCA unit but altering the context Alter the design approach Change the way task is approached from original FPTs in QCA Developing extra skills to make designing and making more accessible Make the link with cross curricular themes

5 An example of Changing the Context
Use of an existing unit Slippers – give new context to children You are a designer with a famous Client – design a slipper for a famous celebrity considering their personal needs, tastes and image. Send letters to the celebrity and if there is a response use this to set design criteria!

6 Celebrity responses! Year 6 children had some great replies!
Jake wrote to his swimming hero – James Hickman He received a great and design ideas!
