10 HPV Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. Some health effects caused by HPV can be prevented with vaccines.   HPV is so common that nearly all sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives.

11 HPV You can get HPV by having oral, vaginal, or anal sex with someone who has the virus. It is most commonly spread during vaginal or anal sex. HPV can be passed even when an infected person has no signs or symptoms.  You also can develop symptoms years after you have sex with someone who is infected making it hard to know when you first became infected.

12 HPV

13 Chlamydia Most people who have chlamydia don’t know it since the disease often has no symptoms. Chlamydia is the most commonly reported STD in the United States. Sexually active females 25 years old and younger need testing every year. Although it is easy to cure, chlamydia can make it difficult for a woman to get pregnant if left untreated

14 Chlamydia Symptoms: PAINFUL burning when going to the bathroom
Swelling of the testicles in men Discharge from penis and vagina Many times it is SYMPTOM FREE and leads to infertility in women.

15 Trichomoniasis Bacterial in nature
Trichomoniasis is a very common STD that is easy to cure. Most men and women who are infected with trichomoniasis do not have any symptoms. Without treatment, trichomoniasis can increase a person’s chances of getting or spreading other STDs. Pregnant women with trichomoniasis can deliver premature (early) or low birth weight babies.

16 Trichomoniasis About 70% of infected people do not have any signs or symptoms Men with trichomoniasis may feel itching or irritation inside the penis, burning after urination or ejaculation, or some discharge from the penis.  Women with trichomoniasis may notice itching, burning, redness or soreness of the genitals, discomfort with urination, or a thin discharge with an unusual smell that can be clear, white, yellowish, or greenish.   Having trichomoniasis can make it feel unpleasant to have sex. Without treatment, the infection can last for months or even years.

17 Herpes

18 Herpes Herpes is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that any sexually active person can get. Most people with the virus don’t have symptoms. It is important to know that even without signs of the disease, it can still spread to sexual partners. You can get herpes by having oral, vaginal, or anal sex with someone who has the disease.

19 Herpes Genital herpes is common in the United States. In the United States, about one out of every six people aged 14 to 49 years have genital herpes. Symptoms include: chancre sore in the genitals that is preceded by a rash. The disease is contagious a few days prior to the sores being visible. NO CURE for herpes

20 PID Untreated sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a serious condition, in women. 1 in 8 women with a history of PID experience difficulties getting pregnant. You can prevent PID if you know how to protect yourself

21 PID How do I get PID? You are more likely to get PID if you
Have an STD and do not get treated; Have more than one sex partner; Have a sex partner who has sex partners other than you; Have had PID before; Are sexually active and are age 25 or younger

22 Syphilis Syphilis is an STD that can have very serious complications when left untreated. Syphilis is easy to cure in its early stages. Pregnant women should be tested regularly for syphilis because infection with syphilis can cause serious problems in a baby. In 2012, 75% of the reported primary and secondary (P&S) syphilis cases were among men who have sex with men (MSM).

23 Syphilis How is syphilis spread?
You can get syphilis by direct contact with a syphilis sore during anal, vaginal, or oral sex. Sores can be found on the penis, vagina, anus, in the rectum, or on the lips and in the mouth. Syphilis can also be spread from an infected mother to her unborn baby. What does syphilis look like? Syphilis has been called ‘the great imitator’ because it has so many possible symptoms, many of which look like symptoms from other diseases. The painless syphilis sore that you would get after you are first infected can be confused for an ingrown hair, zipper cut, or other seemingly harmless bump. The non-itchy body rash that develops during the second stage of syphilis can show up on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet, all over your body, or in just a few places. You could also be infected with syphilis and have very mild symptoms or none at all.

24 Syphilis Am I at risk for syphilis?
Any sexually active person can get syphilis through unprotected anal, vaginal, or oral sex Syphilis is bacterial and can be cured by antibiotics.

25 Who Am I

26 What does it mean? Sexual Risk Behavior: HIV, STD, & Teen Pregnancy Prevention Many young people engage in sexual risk behaviors that can result in unintended health outcomes. For example, among U.S. high school students surveyed in 2011 47.4% had ever had sexual intercourse 33.7% had had sexual intercourse during the previous 3 months, and, of these 39.8% did not use a condom the last time they had sex 76.7% did not use birth control pills or Depo-Provera to prevent pregnancy the last time they had sex 15.3% had had sex with four or more people during their life Sexual risk behaviors place adolescents at risk for HIV infection, other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and unintended pregnancy: An estimated 8,300 young people aged 13–24 years in the 40 states reporting to CDC had HIV infection in 20092 Nearly half of the 19 million new STDs each year are among young people aged 15–24 years More than 400,000 teen girls aged 15–19 years gave birth in 2009
