Pupillary Distance Measurements: Pupilometer
Take Monocular PD Measurements Take Binocular PD Measurements PD Stick

Clean the area around the eyes.
Ask the patient to hold the pupilometer with both hands Tell them they will see a light. As you gaze into the pupilometer move the levers to line up with the patient’s pupils. Both: Binocular and Monocular measurements will display. The middle number is the Binocular PD. The Right & Left are the Monocular PD.

Taking Binocular PD Measurements with a PD Stick
Measured from outer of the eye to the inner side of the other eye. This method helps with dark eyes and pupil is not visible. Measured from pupil to pupil using a pen light to light up pupils.

Taking Monocular PD Measurements with a PD Stick
When we do not have a pupilometer we may use PD sticks to take the same measurements.

Taking Measurements for Lenses
Progressive Lenses: There is no visible line, and the patient see all ranges: Distance – Mid-Range – Reading Bi-focal Lenses: There is a visible line, and the patient see two ranges: Distance and Reading – Not Mid-Range Tri-Focal Lenses: There are two visible lines, and patient see three ranges: Single Lenses: The lens has no visible lines, and the patient see one range: Could be for Distance, Computer, or Reading
