1 Year 2 Classroom News Reading in Year 2 WELCOME to YEAR 2
Mrs McIntyre (Teacher) Mrs Murphy (CA) Ms E McKiernan (CA) WELCOME to YEAR 2 I would like to extend a big welcome to all my Year 2 children. We have 2 new boys in our class this year Ollie Maguire and Kevin Mezydlo. I look forward to getting to know you, teaching you and having lots of fun. TOPIC: Wonderful ME! Children will learn about similarities and differences between themselves; name and talk about the 5 Senses; name external parts of the body and talk about what makes them special. TIMETABLE MONDAY: Library Van MONDAY: PE FRIDAY: PE Important Please send in a baby photo of your child (with name on the back) for our Topic. THANK YOU!. Reading in Year 2 For the month of September your child will revise their Year 1 words and read some reading books from last year. Please practice their reading and words every night. Thank you Little reminders: Dinner money: £2.60 (daily) £13.00 (weekly) Tuck Shop: £13 (Sept & Oct) HOMEWORK FOLDER All homework, reading books, letters etc will be sent home in a homework folder. Please ensure that this folder is in your child’s school bag every day. DATES to Remember: School Closed for staff training on 15th September Holidays – School closed October: 30th & 31st November: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 24th December: 21st -31st January 1st, 2nd, 3rd back to school 4th REMEMBER Mrs McIntyre is our Child Protection teacher and Mrs Harbinson is our Deputy Child Protection teacher. Both teachers can be approached if you have any pastoral concerns about your child. SUBJECT Activities TO HELP AT HOME Language and Literacy Listen and carry out instructions Hear and clap out the syllables in words Recognise rhyming words Talk about personal experiences Enjoy a range of fiction and non-fiction Talk about and retell familiar stories Work through Linguistic phonics programme – beginning with initial sounds s,a,t,p,i,n Making little words using s,a,t,p,i,n Writing simple sentences - Writing Focus ‘Narrative’ writing Shared reading of various big books related to our topic Keywords to learn Clap out syllables in long words e.g foot/ball has 2 syllables Read familiar rhymes, stories and fact books together (ask your child to point out and talk about the cover, author, illustrator, pictures and any sounds/words they know) Look out for our sounds and key words in everyday life (at the shop, doctors, around the home etc). Have fun writing (making lists for school/shop, writing cards, writing thank you letters, having fun with mark-making) Mathematics Numeracy Recognise and order numbers to 10 Recognise and order numbers to 15 Count up to 20 Addition stories for Number 4 and 5 Bar graphs: using bar graphs to show eye colour and age Simple problem solving – word problems Finding out who is the tallest/smallest in class Use games on Count different household objects, and get children to make different sets e.g. 5 clothes pegs, 10 pieces of fruit, 14 socks Sing counting songs Say Number rhymes Simple practical addition activities to 5 e.g 3 apples and 2 apples – how many together? The World Around Us Topic Wonderful ME Explore themselves (who they are, what they look like, where they live) Talk about their own family Listen and respond to stories about people and families learn about similarities and differences between themselves name and talk about the 5 Senses name external parts of the body talk about what makes them special.
