OPVL simplified Origin: Write the title, author, and when it was published? Purpose: What is the main idea of the piece? Who was it written for? Value: What does it say about the time period it comes from? What does the author feel about the topic? What is the argument and what side does it take? Limitations: Is the writer biased? Is there anything incorrect about this? What does the author not talk about?

Do Now Split your ‘Block 2’ box into 4 equal sections and put Origin, Purpose, Value, and Limitation in each box.

Origins Title? Author? Date? Background information? Purpose Main Idea? Perspective? Fact/Opinion/Propaganda? Impartial? Value Useful? Information Reviewed? Verify with other information? Limitation Reliable? Biased? Today you will go around the room and analyze a variety of song lyrics that relate to the ideals of the Enlightenment. When assessing the Value of these sources you should answer the question: Which Enlightenment Thinker connects to this song and why? Use a song lyric as evidence.
