Written Addition – Individual Practice
MP3 player 1 £31.95 Headphones A £12.49 MP3 player 2 £46.27 Headphones B £21.67 MP3 player 3 £110.45 Headphones C £32.75 MP3 player 4 £78.79 Headphones D £45.29 Which pairs of items could you buy with a budget of: £50 £70 £100? Students write on mini whiteboards or in back of books. Watch out for students who: Do not know pairs for every number up to 20 by heart and so have to work out each individual addition on their fingers when carrying out a written addition of three- or four-digit numbers; Make place value errors when using a written method (return to the expanded layout if necessary); Do not apply their knowledge of number bonds of single-digit numbers to adding multiples of 10 and 100, i.e. don’t use the knowledge than 8 and 6 is 14 to add 80 and 60. © Hamilton Trust Keeping Up Term Week 2 Day 2
