first inhabitants of Greek peninsula (Neolithic people?) built primitive, basic structures usually circular, oval, or rectangular made with mud bricks and stones, with reeds or brush typically one room

as city-states developed, temples were built for 2 primary purposes: 1. religious worship of a god(s)/goddess(es) A home for god who controls part of nature… 2. military fortress Why is the acropolis typically on top of a hill…? Greek columns = most striking feature
