1 CEI Claim Evidence Interpretation

2 What is a claim? A claim clearly states a stance on a topic or issue. A claim is the main argument of an essay/paragraph. A claim defines your paper’s/paragraph’s goals and direction and is supported by evidence, argumentation, and telling details. A claim must be argumentative. When you make a claim, you are arguing for a certain interpretation or understanding of your subject. A good claim is specific. It makes a focused argument.

Sentence Starter: Because one of my strongest character traits is _____, I aspire to be… How does your main character trait affect you in life? Mr. Kirkley: Because one of my strongest character traits is making friends easily, I aspire to be good friend to everyone I meet.

4 Use Evidence Survey Results
My number 1 strength is love of learning, and other strengths include leadership and kindness—How might these strengths help me be a better person in life?
