4 GLOBAL CLIMATE OBSERVING SYSTEM (GCOS) IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (JCOMM-5-d04-1(1)-GCOS-IMPLEMENTATION-PLAN-draft1_en) Key messages from INF. 4.1(1): Implementation Plan contains 201 actions, 61 of which are relevant for JCOMM: Actions to maintain and improve the networks Actions to facilitate dissemination of observations and products Actions to promote future improvements

5 GLOBAL CLIMATE OBSERVING SYSTEM (GCOS) IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (JCOMM-5-d04-1(1)-GCOS-IMPLEMENTATION-PLAN-draft1_en) Key messages from Doc 4.1(1): Many of the GCOS actions for the ocean and the maritime atmosphere are addressed in the JCOMM OCG work plan and supported by the observing networks that OCG coordinates, JCOMMOPS has agreed to track progress against GCOS actions (by network, and in future by variable), Many of the data management actions are also supported by JCOMM (through the Observations Coordination Group, and  the Data Management Program Area).

6 GLOBAL CLIMATE OBSERVING SYSTEM (GCOS) IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (JCOMM-5-d04-1(1)-GCOS-IMPLEMENTATION-PLAN-draft1_en) This document includes one proposed decision draft Decision 4.1(1)/1 — Support to the new GCOS Implementation Plan; Decides that WMO Members and IOC Member States who contribute to ocean monitoring should ensure that this monitoring contributes to sustainable climate observations that support adaptation to climate change and the UNFCCC, by implementing, as appropriate, the actions identified in the GCOS Implementation Plan, and especially those identified in JCOMM-5/INF 4.1(1), as important oceanographic parts of global climate monitoring system.
