4 Righteousness: What we aspire to do/be:
A sense of all that is awesome Faith, Truth, Humility – Hope, Thankfulness, Peace Love, Generosity, Creativity – Mercy, Healing, Justice (e.g. Father in Luke 15) Missing the Mark (Sin): What we aspire to avoid: An understanding of the destructive power of All that is not of God (e.g. hardening hearts) Mercy: What is permitted: God being present in a situation which God did not originally intend (pigs, field)

5 Righteousness: What we aspire to do/be: God as King
I will and be your God, and you will be my people. (Leviticus 26:12) Missing the Mark: What we aspire to avoid: Man as King The People said “appoint a king to lead us” The Lord said “They have rejected me as their king” (1 Samuel 8: 5-7) + Warnings (10% King Tax) Mercy: What is permitted: Man as King When you say, ‘Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,’ be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses.” (Deut 17:14-15)

6 Righteousness: What we aspire to do/be:
6 Because God ‘made them male and female’ 7 a man will be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’ Missing the Mark: What we aspire to avoid: 9What God has joined together, let no one separate.” 11  “Anyone who divorces their spouse and marries another commits adultery Mercy: What is permitted: 5 “Because your hearts were hard Moses permitted divorce

7 Thank God for his written Word to us
1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied. 4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” 5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.” Thank God for his written Word to us

8 First: Righteousness: What we aspire to do/be:
