Ganges basin highly vulnerable to climate change
The Indo-Gangetic Plain – 255 million hectare fertile land. Ganges provides water to million people, largest in the world. The seasonal distribution of flow is extremely variable. Snow fed : % of the total runoff (Jan-March) & as high as % in July & August. Purely rain fed rivers : % (March – May) & % in July & August.

Climate Change Scenario
Projections under high emission scenario: temperature rise of 4-5C by 2080. Sea level rise of rise by 0.05–0.25 meters by 2050 and by 0.18–0.80 meters by the end of the 21st century. In BBIN region Temperature increase - more Pronounced-higher altitudes melting of Himalayan glaciers. increased intensity of rainfall Projected Extreme Rainfall
