Interview MUST be done in person At least 12 questions must be prepared for the interviewee to answer Interview MUST last at least 20 minutes Transcript of questions and answers required Record with your phone

Requirements Use description and imagery - adjectives
Describe the setting Interviewee’s physical attributes Interviewee’s qualities Dialogue tags (No says; use synonyms to describe HOW the person is speaking) Use transitions Direct and indirect quotations Third person (no “I/me/we/us”) MLA style At least 2 pages double spaced Include an interesting title (BAD - Interview Narrative or Interview with Kate)

Interview narrative – structure of genre
Integrate quotations and don’t include the interview question Use description - imagery Use tone words, NO: I asked my dad if he liked college and he said yes. YES: Jay smiled and recalls, “College was a fun time because I met a lot of friends and became involved in a business fraternity.”

Imagery + Setting The afternoon sun spills into the front room of Karen Patrick’s welcoming home. Sitting down and facing her, anyone can see that Karen has lived quite the life. Photos on the side table showcase her world travels, warm family memories create a window into who she truly is. Directly across from her, an old oak cabinet houses her degree from the University of Illinois. With a bachelor’s degree in business, she is an accomplished woman who found her “true self” and grew “quite a bit” from her time on the Champaign Campus.

Imagery + Dialogue Imagery and Dialogue Tags: Karen brushes her blonde hair away from her face, looks down and smiles, “The best thing about going to University of Illinois was meeting my husband.” She then laughs, “I’m glad that I changed majors, we ended up being lab partners.”

Karen takes a moment to reflect on the biggest obstacle she faced while attending U of I. After a deep sigh she pushes up the sleeves of her green cardigan and reveals “being away from home was really hard, I missed my family and there were several weekends where I just wanted to go home.”
