Standard Diploma: Meet graduation requirements Advanced Diploma: Meet graduation requirements plus the following: *Math: Sec Math 1, Sec Math 2, Sec Math 3 *Science: at least 2 of these sciences (biology, chemistry, or physics) plus a third year of science *2 years same World Language in grades 8-12 *2.0 Cum GPA Honors Diploma: Meet graduation requirements for Advanced Diploma plus have the following ACT Scores: English Math Reading 22 Science 23 *3.0 Cum GPA Canyons District Diplomas

Make-Up Credit Options
Jordan Night School Canyons Virtual High School (CVHS) NCAA approved Grade replacements are possible. See p. 2 in the Greensheet. Private Accredited Learning Centers (Be sure to check with your counselor before purchasing packets.) It takes time and costs money to make up NGs and credits. It’s much easier to attend and pass your classes the first time.

Stackable Credentials
High school graduates may receive a 20 percent wage increase with a certificate. Certificate holders, especially those in high-earning fields of study, may do better than employees without certificates.

CHOOSING A COLLEGE If considering out-of-state institutions, contact them early. RMACAC Utah College Fair (September 23, 2017) 1:00-3:30 (Juan Diego High School) Jordan’s College Day: October 3, 2017 College Representatives visit JHS in the Commons during lunch time—talk to them. Make campus visits Make comparisons based on programs/degrees, cost, location, housing, etc.

Technical Schools Technical schools offer certificate programs such as: electrician, plumbing, business, accounting, cosmetology Dental assisting, mechanic, medical assisting, welding, HVAC Nail technician, pharmacy technician, practical nursing and more The programs are open enrollment Costs are very reasonable Certificates are earned in 6-18 months Check out all the campuses and programs at ucat.edu Mountainland Applied Technology Center (MLATC), UVU & SLCC also offer certificate programs.

Apply to more than one college
Apply to more than one college! Each school will offer different amounts of aid and scholarship money. Tuition costs will vary. Dream school: You really want to attend this college, but it’s a long shot. (Harvard, Stanford) Match school: This college has your degree and fits your budget and lifestyle. You would be happy here. Safe school: You are guaranteed acceptance at this school. It can start you on your college path.

FINANCIAL AID SCHOLARSHIPS
Attend JHS Paying for College Night January 7 p.m. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Jordan High FAFSA completion night November 9, p.m. See Mrs. Barnhill in Rm 1030 for FAFSA help. FAFSA gives you access to Pell Grants (free money), Student Loans, and Work-study (jobs on campus). Many scholarships require FAFSA completion. SCHOLARSHIPS Review the Green Sheet Apply for scholarships every month Sign up for Remind texts Check your college websites for scholarships Pay attention to deadlines and stay organized Meet ACT/GPA requirements for academic scholarships

Nov. 6-10 Fill out college applications during school. Admission reps will be on hand to answer questions. Counselors and staff can help you complete applications. Some schools waive the application fee this week.

ADMISSIONS Procedure: Complete the application
Pay application fee online Priority Deadline Dec. 1 Check your school’s deadline Send a transcript order transcripts from the registrar’s office Obtain letters of recommendation Check your account at each school to verify that your application is complete.

Deferment Apply for college and scholarships even if you are leaving for a mission or military service following your high school graduation. (It’s nice to come home and go straight to college.) Contact each institution to find out their specific policies.

Do you need to retake the ACT or SAT?
Do you need a higher score to qualify for: Admission to a selective school An academic scholarship where a higher ACT/SAT will give you more money College placement: An ACT math score of 23 will qualify you for 1050. A math score of 25 will let you skip 1050. An ACT score of 29 lets you skip Eng. 1010 The CCRP handout has a list of test dates and registration information.

E= Exemplary: $4,000/year 4 years O= Outstanding: $3,500/year 2 years D=Distinguished: $2,000/year 1 year You need an ACT score of 24 to qualify for an academic scholarship at UVU. Weber State index Presidential: full tuition & fees /4 years Trustees: $3,500/year for 1 year Deans: $2,000/year for 1 year Merit: $1,000/year for 1 year Opportunity: $500/year for 1 year An ACT score of 14 and a GPA of 3.8 will earn an academic scholarship at Weber.

Explore branches of military Meet with a recruiter Look into ROTC Graduate Work Update your resume Research job openings Line up references Does your work offer tuition reimbursement Does it pay a livable wage? ($11.09/hour in Utah for one person) 40 hrs. a week at = $1,774.40/month before taxes.
