How to be sure you are on schedule to apply for a teaching license when you thought you could!

2. 1st semester freshman (Fall):
ED 201 Education as a Profession Background check, insurance (annually)
Core Academic Skills Tests (reading, writing, math) except for students with an ACT of 21+ or an SAT of
ets.org Praxis Series for Tennessee

3. 2nd semester freshman (spring)
ED 190 Intro to Computers for Teachers
ED 230 Exceptional/Culturally Diverse Individual
Portfolio in Canvas begins
FE (documentation on log)
TEP I
Background check, insurance, 2.75 GPA, one disposition rating, Core Academic Skills tests (3) passed
Successful interview = ADMISSION to TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM
Disposition rating from a faculty member from whom you have taken a course, your advisor, or another ed professional (FE) – admin assistant Molly Agee who will send them a link for the rating
TEP I – Nov. 11 and 12 9:00-4:00 sign ups are available here and thereafter in the ed office
THIS TIME – shorter time frame – bring proof that you have registered for Core Academic but will not be admitted until passed / again in February

4. What happens if I don’t pass TEP I?
Day during the exam period to provide missing evidence : listed in the letter you receive
Cannot provide missing evidence by the deadline? Reinterview for TEP I in the following semester
You may interview twice only.

5. Sophomore and Junior Years
ED 301 Strategies in Teaching
Requires a B as a requirement for TEP II
Complete the remainder of education courses according to selected program and under guidance of education advisor
Coordinate coursework with guidance of content advisor for secondary dual majors
1st semester junior year – submit graduation evaluation form to registrar
Grad eval – time to do something about any missing work

6. Senior Year First semester (fall): intent to graduate to registrar
ED 432 Classroom Management
ED 433 Methods in Education
TEP II
Background check up to date, insurance
2 disposition ratings
Undergrads – ALL required licensure tests passed (scores returned to education office)
Portfolio defense*
FE documentation in Canvas
If you take a Praxis test and do not pass, immediately inform the CFE to discuss
* This semester – once signed up for TEP II, told what faculty member will be reviewing your portfolio

7. TEP II (cont.) Full admission to the program through TEP I
Minimum GPA: 2.75
Math 110 or 111 (depends on program)
Completion of ed and content courses with no less than C in each course
ED 301 with B
Demonstration to faculty and school partners of dispositions/conduct for successful student teaching

8. TEP II (cont.) No record of compromised academic integrity
If you pass TEP II…
Submit form for student teaching placement preference during the summer or no later than 2 weeks after the start of your Methods class
On the CU website in the TEP handbook
TEP II Nov. 23 and 24

9. Last semester of senior year
STUDENT TEACHING

10. Professional Semester of Student Teaching
Register for ST AND seminar
Two placements: 8 weeks and 7 weeks
No additional job
If you complete ST successfully…
WOOHOO! We recommend you to the state for licensure!
Elem: K-3; 4-6
Secondary; MS and HS
Follow teacher schedule; plan family reunions, vacations, doctor’s appts., etc. outside that schedule follow break schedule of the school system

11. Your responsibility for licensure

12. What you do during student teaching for licensure…
Request that an official transcript from ALL colleges/universities you attended be submitted directly from that institution to…
