LT 5: Our last learning target!
LT 5: I can identify and describe how Judaism influenced beliefs, customs, and cultures around the world. How does Judaism affect people’s lives (clothing, food, holidays, etc.)? One of the biggest influences Judaism has had on the world is that this religion introduced the idea of : ___________________. (beliefs) This was the first ancient religion to believe in just one God. Both Christianity and Islam have its roots in Judaism. This means all three religions are related, and Judaism influenced both Christianity and Islam. (cultures) Jewish people have their own set of customs, like religious practices, holidays, even dress that influence people around the world today. We learned a lot about these in the video we watched in class. Holidays affect peoples lives due to the customs observed on those holidays. Some important Jewish holidays are: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, ________________, and Chanukah However, not all Jewish people practice Judaism in the same way, different families may have different customs or traditions.

The story is told during a festive ritual meal called a “Seder.” During the holiday, it is traditional to not eat any foods containing leaven(no yeast) Matzah, an unleavened bread that is baked before it has a chance to rise is one of the few “grains” Jewish people will eat during this time. Hanukkah 8–day Jewish winter festival celebrates the miracle of a small amount of oil when it burned for 8 days, instead of only one. It also celebrates the military victory of the Jewish Maccabees over the powerful Syrian Greek army in 167 BCE.
