Basic Definitions Occupation is a regular activity performed in an exchange for payment and are the basic element for life long leading professional tasks (OSHA, 1999). When people are doing assignments, their work place should be safe. So, Safety is a state of being free from hazards and dangerous environments(OSHA, 1999). . Subsequently, health is the result of good safety that is under the state of normal body ailment. Therefore, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in general is to mean that any types of activity under normal working circumstance free from any health problem and hazards(KwesiAmponsah-Tawiah and Kwasi Dartey-Baah, ) Invite participants to think about the difference between incident and accident. DEFINITION: The joint international labor organization committee on Occupational health, 1950 defined occupational health as “The highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations.”(WHO,1986;WHO,1995)

Basic Definitions Accident: An unplanned, unwanted, but controllable event which disrupts the work process and causes injury to people (Industrial Accident Prevention Association, 2007). Most everyone would agree that an accident is unplanned and unwanted. The idea that an accident is controllable might be a new concept. An accident stops the normal course of events and causes property damage or personal injury, minor or serious, and occasionally results in a fatality. Incident: An unplanned and unwanted event which disrupts the work process and has the potential of resulting in injury, harm, or damage to persons or property. It may not disrupt job but an alarm (Industrial Accident Prevention Association, 2007). Invite participants to think about the difference between incident and accident. Basic Definitions Hazard is considered to be anything that can cause harm (Industrial Accident Prevention Association, 2007). Some of the examples of hazards may include chemicals, electricity, a bully work or stress, etc. A hazard is said to be present when there is an object or a situation present that may have an adverse effect on the surrounding. There can be other hazards like an explosion, leakage of toxic gas etc.. Invite participants to think about the difference between incident and accident. Basic Definitions Risk can be taken as chance or probability that harm may occur (Industrial Accident Prevention Association, 2007). There are certain situations, and the circumstances and sometimes the severity of the harm is passed as a statement. Risk can be considered as negligible or can be high even. Hazard: A hazard is considered to be anything that can cause harm (eg machines). Risk: Risk can be taken as chance or probability that harm may occur. (obstacle on way) Relationship: Hazard: If there are many risk factors, there is a high chance for a hazard.
