3 Chord Progressions The easiest way to learn to recognise chord progressions is by singing the intervals. Here is a list of some songs to remember some intervals. 4th – Amazing grace 5th – Twinkle Twinkle 6th – Hush Little baby If you sing the first 2 notes of each of the songs it will give you the first 2 chords in the progression. Then you just need to figure out if it is going up or down from there.

4 Hooktheory.com Hooktheory is a fantastic resource for working out chord progressions and highlighting where certain progressions happen in songs.

5 Added 6th Chord Listen for the lowest and highest notes you should be able to sing ‘Hush little baby’

6 Dominant 7th Chord b Sing the riff at the start of pretty woman in your head! Or listen out for the highest and lowest notes, sing the first 2 notes of ‘Somewhere’ from west side story in this key and they are the same notes.

7 Diminished 7th Chord b b b Flattened 3rd, 5th and 7th.
