Maintenance of Traffic Overview

3 Why is this happening next year?
I-75 Mega Project Pavement Conditions Why is this happening next year? I-75 mega project from 13 mile to Coolidge and 8 Mile to 13 Mile have been expedited to late We don’t want 696 going on with the adjacent I-75 work. If we don’t do work on 696 next year, our next option is 2024 at the earliest.

4 Current Condition I-696 was constructed in the mid 70’s and it has been deteriorating over time. It’s gotten to the point where we can barely hold it together and a patch job wouldn’t suffice.

5 Current Condition So this is why the urgency to do mainline construction in 2018

Public Act 79 (1997) Pavement analysis must be done when pavement costs exceed $1Mil Costs based on material prices and overall costs of the life cycle of the road *MDOT Pavement Design and Selection (2012) Pavement selection Components of the calculations are initial costs, maintenance costs, construction staging, and maintenance of traffic. The final calculation is equivalent uniform annual cost per lane mile per year. The lower material in price gets chosen.

10 Maintenance of Traffic
Close WB I-696 traffic for the duration of mainline project construction April-November 2018 Maintenance of Traffic We looked at different options, closing one bound, part width construction, keeping traffic on one bound (both directions of traffic) and constructing in quadrants but we felt closing WB for the duration of the project was the most logical for traffic and constructability
