Situation/Problem Too many resources Hard to find right one
Websites difficult to use Websites not free Students failing My friend Salli is failing some of the tests in her math class. She is failing because she can’t find the proper resources. She kept asking me for a good website that would help her study and solve practice problems, but I didn’t know any. She tried looking things up on Google but she could never find the right information – the websites weren’t useful or weren’t freely accessible. Salli wasn’t alone, though – 1000’s of students fail every day because they can't find the right resources to study.

Proposed Solution Free, public web app Centralized educational hub
Walk-throughs, instructions, guides, examples Approved educational content 5 subjects + optimized search Our solution, Cedar, is a centralized educational hub which will make finding answers and step-by-step solutions to problems easier and more efficient. It’s a web app with approved educational content sorted into 5 major subject categories and built-in search to make finding the right resource simple. With our solution, Cedar, we intend to simplify access to learning programs and centralize helpful information on how to solve and breakdown problems. By using our interface, users can immediately see the difference between Cedar and other websites;

Existing Alternatives
Quizlet Math Papa Photo Math Khan Academy Prezi Slader Youtube Quora While quizlet, math papa, study island, quora, etc. have the potential to help students with their problems, the content is spread out among multiple online platforms. Then we thought, “why can’t this just be all together?”

Unique Value Proposition
“It’s the Google, for School” Centralizes information Quicker and easier note taking Save previous sites viewed Education only search engine Volunteer board of content advisors Cedar helps to centralize all of this information. To make note-taking easier, we have integrated an in-browser notepad alongside the content you’re viewing. You have the ability to save sites you’ve viewed and rate the content. Cedar is a search engine for educational needs and only includes sources of content approved by our volunteer board of advisors.

Impact Students are more prepared
Metrics identify challenging + popular topics Teachers can customize lesson plans better Students are effectively assisted with curriculum We know that students will be able to have greater and easier access to answers and instructions to help with their educational needs. We hope that teachers and creators will use the metrics data we provide, including videos watched and the most searched topics, to customize their lesson plans to effectively help students.

Thank you. We enjoyed this event a lot and we learned so much this weekend, like working effectively in teams and how to start a business. We’ve grown a lot this weekend as a team, and individually…now with our idea, Cedar, we are giving all students the potential for growth.
