Staging of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)
Staging of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). A) Radiologic detection of a large lymphomatous mass involving the mediastinum. B) Identification of sites involved by DLBCL by positron emission tomography (PET). The patient has been injected with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose, a radioactive compound that is taken up rapidly by metabolically active tissues and emits positrons upon decay. The image shown represents a three-dimensional reconstruction of the positron emission pattern. The arrows denote abnormal uptake of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose in retroperitoneal, mediastinal, right axillary, and cervical lymph nodes, which is consistent with involvement by lymphoma.
