What is Risk Assessment as defined by the 2015 NFPA 70E?
Breakout Group #1 (BP-192 Section 1.0)
7
What is Risk Assessment?
The term Risk Assessment was introduced into the 2015 NFPA 70E. Risk Assessment: An overall process that identifies hazards, estimates the potential severity of injury or damage to health, estimates the likelihood of occurrence of injury or damage to health, and determines if protective measures are required.
8
How is this different? Hazard Analysis – Identifying associated hazards to personnel safety, equipment, and environment. Risk – A combination of the likelihood of occurrence of injury or damage to health and the severity of injury or damage to health that results from a hazard.
9
Risk Assessment Process
2015 NFPA 70E Globally replaced hazard analysis with risk assessment Many papers, standards, and guides written to help understand and explain Risk Management. Reference Section 4.0 Best practice focuses on incorporating Risk Management into Integrated Safety Management (ISM).
