Figure 1 What is the relationship between SLE and SS?
1. Both SLE and SS very similar genetics and antibodies; Both have Type I IFN signature SLE SS 3. SS is characterized by lymphoid infiltrates in glands and other tissues so lymphocyte aggressive 4. Homing receptors-- -- to get lymphocytes to tissues -- Perpetuation of local immune response to produce Antibody to SS-A/SS-B -- Increased risk Lymphoma 2. SLE is characterized by Immune Complexes Renal glomeruloneph. Hemolytic anemia Thrombocytopeniaq
2
However, SS and SLE do have some distinct differences
SS is characterized by infiltration of lymphocytes into ocular and salivary glands, so it is more lymphocyte aggressive, and may also includes other systems such as lung (pneumonitis), kidney (interstitial nephritis), neurological (central and peripheral) lymphoproliferative (features) (lymphoma)

Neurologic-peripheral neuropathy Esophageal-dysphagia and tracheal reflux SLE Skin-leukocytoclastic vasculitis Lung-pleural effusions Renal-glomerulonephritis Cardiac-pericarditis Hematologic-ITP, hemolytic anemia Neuropathy-mononeuritis multiplex
