Understanding the media presentation

Who owns the company and how is It funded?
The BBC is owned by the UK State. However it is technically owned by the taxpayers, as it is funded by UK viewers paying for a TV license. The BBC is primarily funded by viewers paying for a television license, but there was also a large donation given to the BBC from the UKs department for International Development to fund it.
3
some history about the company
On October 18th, the British Broadcasting Company was formed. On the 14th November, the first BBC broadcast was aired from London. Then Birmingham on November 15th, then Newcastle, on 24th December. The BBC radio stations were launched in September 1967, launching BBC radio, 1, 2 and 3. The first broadcast of the BBC on television was Come Dancing, in 1950. BBC television for schools began in in September 1957, where the children would watch the BBC for educational purposes at 2pm.
4
Was it owned by a previous company?
No, the BBC was its own independent company and still is to this day. It is primarily owned by the taxpayers as they pay for the licence, and pay for the BBC to run.
5
How is the company performing financially as well as viewing figures?
The companys funding is performing well as it is being funded by 15 companies, most of all being £14.1 million by the DFID. (Department For International Development). The companys viewing figures are doing well as the program ‘Blue Planet’ is getting million views. I got this information from the BARB website, as I could see the ratings for the channel and the programs views.
6
How many people work for the company?
There is 20,950 staff tat work for the BBC in total. 16,672 people work in public sector broadcasting. When including the amount of people who work for the BBC who are part-time, flexible or fixed contract is 35,402 members of staff.
7
What direction do I see the company going in?
I think the BBC will continue to be popular as it is a well known company that features many channels with programs suitable and appealing for all ages. It is also the biggest broadcasting company, therefore, I would say that it will continue to expand. Furthermore, I think that the company will further develop shows that make the company popular and receive high viewing ratings, in order for it to remain the top broadcasting company. I think that because the company do aim their channels and shows to all different age groups, they will always have an audience, therefore, they will never lose popularity. However if a higher funded, well known broadcasting company were to exist in the future, I think the BBC would lose a lot of viewers and mainly have the older generation.
8
Who are their target audience?
The BBCs target audience is people of all ages. This is because they have shows and channels dedicated to people of all ages. They have BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC News and BBC Parliament, which applies and is mainly targeted at adults and the older generation. They then have Cbeebies, for children, which is only aired until 7pm, and contains many children’s programs. They then have CBBC for the older children, which is aired slightly longer and contains slightly more mature shows. For the teenagers they have BBC 3, which has shows including subjects like relationships, body image and drugs and contains lot of drama, which appeals to the teenage generation due to them wanting to watch all of the things they have easy access too at that age.

Cherry radio

Who owns the company and how is it funded?
I will primarily own the company, but so will the UK ste and the listeners. It will be funded by advertising, but the advertising will be aimed at teens, so it will be adverts containing songs, which make them interesting. The adverts will also include events that will be near to the time and other exciting things for young people to want to know about. It will also include a news round but will only have positive news featured on it, as broadcasting negativity to my age of target audience may cause extra stress, as well as the everyday stress they already endure, whether it be big or small.
11
some history of the company
The history of the company is that teens want to listen to all the popular songs and current affairs of the current time, therefore the radio station was created at the end of 2016, and further developed into 2017 to be exactly what the public want. The first show broadcasted on the radio was on the 1st February 2017. The first show contained the top 40 chart songs, along with adverts for clubs and events that people aged 16+ can go to. There has also been events especially for the radio station to get it up and running, and to help with the funding at the beginning.
12
Was it previously owned by a different company?
No, the company is owned by me and the public, as well as the 25 people that work for the company, as everyone has their say in what’s included within the show. Everyone that work for the station is also fairly young and within the target audience range that the radio appeals too. This is because they will know automatically what’s fresh and what’s new, therefore knowing what to include. The company will also take on apprenticeships for young people instead of, or after college.
13
Financial and viewing figures
The financial figures look good, and receive hundreds of thousands of pounds a week due to current advertisers wanting to make their company or event noticed by people 16+, and they spend a large amount of money to do so as we have many listeners on our shows. That leads me onto the viewing figures, as 12 million people listen in to the radio station per week, due to the music and excitement of the show, as well as people of the older generation listening to it as well.
14
How many people work for the company?
All together there are 25 people, as the company is new, however the 25 people are very important and eventually we will expand and hire more people after the company has been on air for a year. We have editors, djs, accountants, radio commercial producer, radio broadcast journalist, radio presenters, a marketing executive, a reporter, a programme controller and a radio producer. Until there is more to manage and the radio station becomes more popular, then the staff will remain the same.
15
The direction I see the company going in…
I can see the company widely expanding, as teens are discovering and creating new things everyday, as well as new events and concerts ect being released, all of which we know about within an hour, and publish it is as soon as we can. Therefore, if the content becomes more and more relevant and interesting so will the young people, as well as the older people who listen in to find out what sort of things young people of today listen too and what would interest them. Furthermore, I think that, if we are in contact with current artists, then all new music that hasn’t been released yet will be broadcasted beforehand, so the viewers will be extremely interested.
16
Target audience and media platforms
The target audience for my radio station is people 16+ to around 25, as I think at that age, teens and young adults are most curious and most interested in the current affairs, due to the simple fact of boredom, people in this age range get bored easily, if not working or with family or friends, so it is something to do. The media platforms that will be used will be adverts on television, Facebook, snapchat, Instagram, twitter, and online adverts as pop ups when using an iPad or laptop for example. This is because, these are the most currently well-known used apps of today, however, any other popularity apps or places that have many views will contain an ad for Cherry Radio too. The station will have its own app where it will broadcast the 24 hour music, advertisements and shows, that people can listen too, however they will need an account to access this, not to pay for a subscription, but there will also be merchandise advertised and available to buy on the app, so the only money needed from the people who have an account is if they want to purchase anything, but card details will not be needed when signing up, only the time they purchase their items.
