3 Suicide mortality rates
above national average Historically rates in NS higher than England ( ) Rates since then have fallen and rates now similar to England Note small numbers so trends fluctuate 33% of suicides in North Somerset female Compared to 28% in South West and 24% across England Suicides in those aged 10+ 11 per year 24 per year

4 North Somerset Zero Suicide Steering Group
Purpose: To reduce the number of suicides to as close to zero as possible across North Somerset by bringing together key agencies to facilitate cross-working and to improve awareness around suicide prevention in the locality. 1. To develop a cross-agency action plan 2. To promote and enable cross-agency working 3. To reduce stigma associated with suicide 4. To raise awareness around services available to support people who are suicidal 5. To identify gaps in service delivery to inform commissioning decisions

Frequency: Meets quarterly Responsibilities and approach: To agree, oversee and monitor the implementation of the action plan. Membership: North Somerset Council, North Somerset CCG, AWP, 1 in 4, NSCP, Samaritans, Lay members, Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Network Rail

7 Progress to date Cross Avon audit of all suicides
Self-harm register at Weston Hospital A&E department Set up a bereaved by suicide support group. Training for front line staff in suicide prevention GP awareness training

8 Future Plans Cross agency review of suicides
Post intervention support for those bereaved by suicide Mental Health awareness week Walking out of darkness Further work with GP practices
