Identify the parts of a DNA molecule and its structure.
Understand that the chromosomes are composed of DNA strand and proteins.
Why is it important you learn this?
It is important because DNA helps determine nearly everything your body does.
You need to have a basic understanding of DNA before we begin learning how to use a Punnett square to determine possible genetic combinations passed from parents to offspring. (SPI )

4. Why was the alphabet the first thing you learned in Kindergarten?
Letters are a code that you need to know before you learn to read.
A cell also uses a code that is stored in its hereditary material. The code is called deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA.
It contains information for an organism’s growth and function.
When a cell divides, the DNA code is copied and passed to the new cells. New cells receive the same coded information that was in the original cell.
Every cell that has ever been formed in your body or in any other organism contains DNA.

5. DNA is part of the chromosomes found in a cell’s nucleus.
