1 Intro to GeoSciences: New notebooks today
Intro to GeoSciences: New notebooks today! Please get your old NB and take it with you! Date: 11/1/17 Agenda LT: Landforms LT: I can ask questions based on observations of Earth’s landforms. Verbal Sponge: How might you describe a landform?

2 TO DO… Distribute new notebooks – you need your old folders!! If you have lost or misplaced it, please bring in a new one ASAP. Who needs to take the test??

3 Inside planet earth video
We are now starting our unit about geological processes. We will learn about earth’s surface and inside the the Earth as well. Complete the questions as you watch the video.

4 LT: I can ask questions based on observations of Earth’s landforms.
Lesson 1 Date: 11/2/17 Agenda LT: Landforms LT: I can ask questions based on observations of Earth’s landforms. Sponge: Name 2 landforms that you have heard about.

5 TO DO… P/D awards ceremony invites Finish video. Review sheet

14 Note to me….

15 Think about it You have been studying Earth’s place in the universe and exploring Earth in space for a while. Now, let’s think about Earth in a different way.

16 Discussion The “Think About It” prompt talked about the Earth being made of rock, which is true. In fact, scientists use rocks to provide evidence for almost everything we know about Earth’s history. People who study Earth are called geologists. Geologists study Earth’s surface, its rocks, its landforms, and what’s inside Earth. They look for clues in the rocks to help them tell Earth’s story. Geologists have to be able to find and interpret evidence from rocks to answer questions about the story of a particular place on Earth. Since we know that geologists study landforms, among other things on Earth, let’s talk more about landforms for a few minutes. What kinds of landforms exist on Earth? Look at the examples in the “Landforms Gallery” in the textbook on page 107.

17 Add to your index Geologists: Geologists study Earth’s surface, its rocks, its landforms, and what’s inside Earth

22 Questions to consider….
What caused the landforms to develop? How long did it take for some of the landforms to develop? Why are the landforms located in their specific places? What types of rocks make up each type of landform? Do the landforms stay the same over time, or are they still changing? Over the next few weeks, we are going to have time to investigate answers to many of these questions. We will keep this list and return to it when we have enough information to answer each one. All of the questions have a common theme: How did these landforms get here? How did Earth’s surface come to look the way it does today? What is the story of this place?

23 LT: I can ask questions based on observations of Earth’s landforms.
Lesson 1 Date: 11/13/17 LT: I can ask questions based on observations of Earth’s landforms. Sponge: Name a landform that we have here in Louisville.

24 TO DO… StudyJams: results?query=landforms Review of Landforms:

25 Reading – Seeing Earth (Anticipation Guide)
Read pages 3 – 5 in the textbook. Answer the “Before Reading” BEFORE you read! Answer the “After Reading” AFTER you read. Write at least 4 sentences. You may finish on the back.

26 Reading – Seeing Earth - KEy
You should have checked 2 and 3 in the After Reading!

27 Landforms Sheet Glue the completed sheet in to your notebook!
