13
ABE State Aid STATE ABE aid for 2017 = approximately $49,000,000 STEP ONE Base aid, $1.73 per resident of member districts = approx. $9M STEP TWO Remaining funds (approx. $40M) divided into: 8% (approx $3.2M): K-12 Limited English Proficient (LEP) rate 8%: (approx $3.2M) Over 25 no diploma revenue 84%: (approx. $33.6M) Contact hours FY 2017 state contact hour rate = $6.03 Jodi -contact hour funding is based on contact hours generated in PRIOR year -Community-based organizations and Corrections only receive contact hour funding from the state
14
Federal ABE Aid For federal aid, all funds are distributed based on contact hours. FY 2017 federal contact hour rate = $0.53 Jodi -no federal funding for Adult Secondary Education
15
What does all this mean? You are a GED teacher. Today you had 12 students in class. Your class is two hours long. Based on last year’s rates: How much state funding did your class generate today? How much federal funding did your class generate today? How much total funding did your class generate today? Rosie
16
What does all this mean? 24 contact hours
State contact hour funding = $144.72 Federal contact hour funding = $12.72 Total contact hour funding = $157.44 Rosie
17
Other Sources of ABE Funding
State & federal grants IEL/Civics Pathways to Prosperity Foundation grants United Way Contracts for service Private donations Jodi
18
Discuss in Small Groups
Contact hours determine local ABE funding. Because of that, student persistence is extremely important. How do we build persistence and help students overcome barriers? Rosie
