1 First Wheels, First Helmet
Helmet use in early learning settings

2 Physical Literacy and Safety
Participating in wheeled activities at a young age helps develop balance, coordination and judgement of speed. Children need to learn about how to play in a safe way and learn safe habits for use throughout life.

3 Why this program? Head injuries are the leading cause of serious injury and death in children Helmets protect the fragile brain Helmets need to be properly fitted

4 Why helmets? A child’s brain is more easily injured than an adult’s brain. Young children are at risk for falling. They have poor balance, coordination and riding skills. Children tend to fall head first, putting them at risk for serious head injuries.

5 Helmets Work Helmets spread out the force of impact over a large area and… Reduce the risk of brain injury by 88%. Reduce the risk of head injury by 85%. Prevent bike related deaths in children by 75%.

6 Multi-sport helmets can be used for all non-motorized wheeled activities
They are multi-impact They are designed to protect the head from backward falls Helmets need to be fitted every time they are put on using the 2V1 rule Replace helmets when you see visible damage or every 5 years.

7 Every child’s brain is precious!
