1 CULMINATING PROJECT PRESENTATIONS 2016
The Speech and Exit Interview

2 LEARNING TARGETS Students will articulate key dates
Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the Culminating Project Presentation Armed with information students will select either the speech or exit interview Students will successfully complete the presentation

3 IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER!
April 5: Portfolios Due to evaluators. April 12 &13: Presentation lessons during Senior English classes April 11: Pick up your portfolio from evaluator, or as arranged by your evaluator. Make suggested revisions quickly and re-submit. You cannot do the practice speech /interview until you have a passing portfolio. April 18: Select presentation format (speech or interview in LINK) April 22: Last day to submit Portfolio corrections April 25: Culminating Project Practice Presentations 7:30 am to 8:30 am or by appointment. Your portfolio evaluator will listen to your speech/interview. May: 4 & 5 Senior Board Presentations. June 18 Commencement (1)pm Western Washington Fairgrounds.

6 Let’s Begin Our Preparation
1- Tell us a little about yourself and how your background has influenced your development as a person. 2- Tell us about your community experience project. What were the goals and objectives that you and your mentor established and what did you learn about yourself and the community? 3- Please show us some examples of your work from across the curriculum and throughout high school AND explain HOW these work samples demonstrate the following abilities: a.) The ability to successfully complete a research project. What did you learn about the topic and the research process? b.) The ability to analyze and solve complex problems. c.) The ability to think creatively and to be innovative. d.) The ability to communicate and collaborate. 4- What are your future goals and how have your educational experiences prepared you for your future?

7 The Three Parts of a Speech
I. Introduction (1-2 minutes) II. Body (8-9 minutes 2 minutes per question) III. Conclusion (1-2 minutes) The question and answer period that follows your speech is NOT part of the minute speech! The advantage to the minute speech is that you control the content and the time!

8 HOW TO USE YOUR 3X5 CARDS AND PORTFOLIO
AKA how to give a minute speech in 8 minutes Listen up cherubs!

9 THE INTRODUCTION I. HAVE A CATCH! II. Introduce yourself
III. Provide a roadmap/signposts

10 THE BODY Using your portfolio as supporting evidence answer the four fundamental questions. Tab the sections of your portfolio that answer the questions. Cover in order. For example the first topic you will speak to will be question #1.The second topic would be your response to question #2. Use the “Culminating Project Outline to help yourself answer the 4 questions.

12 THE EXIT INTERVIEW Keys to a successful interview 1.Be professional
2.Be confident (sell yourself) 3.Be poised 4.Be polished 5.Be prepared (role play) 6.Establish and maintain eye contact Look at the Outline for the Four Fundamental Questions! Use it to prepare for your exit interview or speech!

13 INTRODUCTION Smile and greet each panel member with a handshake. Make direct eye contact as you do this. Do not sit until you are asked to have a seat.

14 THE INTERVIEW 10-15 minutes
The questions will be asked in order. You may not use note cards during the interview. Be prepared for possible follow up questions after the initial question. Plan to spend about two minutes answering each question. Plan and practice your responses. Tab your portfolio so you can use it as supporting evidence for your responses. Be prepared for additional questions at the end.

15 THE CONCLUSION As you finish your response to the last fundamental question, set your portfolio down. Ask: Are there any final questions from any of the panel members? When interviewer stands, you stand Extend your hand and say thank you to conclude the interview.
