4. establish Justice What does it mean? Create Fairness How do we do it?
Laws
We have a process if you are accused of a crime
Courts, judges, juries, defense attorneys, public trials

5. insure domestic Tranquility
What does it mean?
Maintain peace and order in our nation
How do we do it?
The National Guard
Federal police forces such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), U.S. Marshals, etc

6. provide for the common defense
What does it mean?
Protect our nation
How do we do it?
The armed forces
Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, etc

7. promote the general Welfare
What does it mean?
Promote the health and well being of the general public
Better the lives of Americans
How do we do it?
Allow aid to the needy
Labor laws and safety laws at work
Food and Drug safety laws

8. Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity
What does it mean?
Keep our freedoms in place forever
How do we do it?
The Bill of Rights defines a number of freedoms
Organizations such as the Civil Rights Commission, the American Civil Liberties Union

9. do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America.
What does it mean?
The people (think We the people) make the Constitution official
How do we do it?
The elected officials from all the states signed it.
