Percents and Fractions
2
Percent A ratio that compares a number to 100.

3
Whole Number Percents If the percent is a whole number, drop the percent sign and put the whole number over the denominator Simplify. Example: 45% = 125% =

Percents With Decimals
If the percent is a decimal, drop the percent sign and move the decimal two places to the left. Then change decimal to a fraction and simplify. Ex % = = 125= 1
12
Marker Boards Convert the following percents to fractions. 55% = 40% = 150% = 33% = 1.5% = 33.3% = 10% = 0.12% =
13
Converting Fractions to Percents: To write a fraction as a percent, find an equivalent ratio with 100 as a denominator. Example: 4 = 80 = 80%
14
Sometimes you will have to REDUCE a fraction BEFORE you can find an equivalent ratio with a denominator of 100. Example: 6 = 3 = 75 = 75%

Change the fraction to a percent
Change the fraction to a percent. If there is no equivalent ratio with a denominator of 100, change the fraction to a decimal, then to a percent. First, change the fraction to a decimal. Divide the denominator into the numerator. 4÷7=0.571 Move the decimal two places to the right and add the percent sign. 57.1%
