3 IMT-2020 : Important Outcome During WRC-2015
Revision of Resolution ITU R Naming for International Mobile Telecommunications (added the new name of IMT-2020) New Resolution ITU-R 65 - Principles for process of future development of IMT for 2020 and beyond New Resolution ITU-R 66 - Studies related to wireless systems and applications for the development of the Internet of Things Revision of Resolution ITU-R Role of the ITU-R Sector in the ongoing development of IMT Recommendation ITU-R M Framework and overall objectives of the future development of IMT for 2020 and beyond (i.e., the Vision Document) Report ITU-R M IMT Traffic estimates beyond year 2020 Report ITU-R M Interactive unicast and multicast audio-visual capabilities and applications provided over terrestrial IMT systems Report ITU-R M The technical feasibility of IMT in the bands above 6 GHz Report ITU-R M Architecture and topology of IMT networks

4 IMT-2020 : Bands Above 6 GHz Towards WRC-19
Agenda Item 1.13 The studies and decisions by WRC-19 are limited to the bands above 24 GHz Already allocated to the Mobile Service in the Table of Allocations: GHz, GHz, GHz, GHz, GHz, GHz, GHz and GHz Would require a new allocation to the Mobile Service in the Table of Allocations: GHz, GHz, GHz and GHz Not all of these bands and/or not complete bands might be identified for IMT by WRC-19 A new ITU group TG 5/1 has been established to study coexistence of IMT-2020 with existing services Availability of bands above 6 GHz offering wide channel sizes are critically important to IMT-2020 Even though not part of Agenda Item 1.13, some countries are proceeding with other bands US GHz, Korea GHz, Brazil, Sweden, etc.

5 Key Considerations : 5G Spectrum
Peak Data Rates Latency Mobility Spectrum Efficiency Energy Efficiency User Density Network Capacity Reliability User Type

6 Study Frequency Ranges for 5G
Higher and lower frequencies are both needed to meet all multiple 5G use cases Low frequencies Full area coverage allowing cost effective delivery of mobile services Bandwidths considerably wider (in the order of 100s of MHz) than those of today, providing a combination of capacity and coverage New bands below 6GHz should be made available for 5G High frequencies • Needed for applications requiring very high data rates • Will accommodate wider channel bandwidths (e.g. in the order of GHz per MNO) • Propagation characteristics may facilitate sharing with existing services

7 Key 5G Spectrum : Low Frequencies
600 MHz Band MHz Band

8 Additional spectrum bands under consideration
Key 5G Spectrum : High Frequencies US GHz Egypt, Bahrain, Russia GHz Korea, Brazil, Sweden 26.5 – 29.5 GHz Additional spectrum bands under consideration Global Preferred for 5G Korea, Brazil, Sweden Global US 24.25 GHz 26.5 GHz 27.5 GHz 28.35 GHz 29.5 GHz

9 Key 5G Spectrum : APT Status
Preliminary views of some APT Members on ITU-R 5G candidate frequency bands Frequency bands (GHz) as per Resolution 238 (WRC-15) 66-76 81-86 CHN √1 JAP KOR NZL VTN NOTE 1: GHz Primary Focus on – 27.5 GHz for 5G

10 5G Early Commercial Plans in the World
US China MHz for 5G trial; consultation on , MHz and , GHz for 5G Japan , MHz and 28 GHz for 5G trial (for commercial service in 2020 Summer Olympic) Korea MHz and GHz (for 2018 Winter Olympic 5G trial) EU , 700 MHz and GHz as 5G pioneer bands; working on and GHz USA , & GHz; and the 600 MHz Note: this is not an exhaustive list; some other countries defined their own plans

11

12 India Spectrum Status : 4G and 5G
4G Spectrum 700 MHz (Band 28) : Yet to be auctioned 850 MHz (Band 5) : Originally assigned for CDMA MHz carrier) RJIO deployed 4G post harmonization in 2016 1800 MHz (Band 3) : Originally assigned for GSM kHz carrier) Nearly all operators deploying 4G post harmonization in 2016 2300 MHz (Band 40) : Auctioned in 2010 Used for 4G by RJIO and Airtel 2500 MHz (Band 41) : Auctioned in 2016 Idea and Vodafone to deploy 4G 5G Spectrum > 6 GHz : Yet to start studies for identification of 5G spectrum < 6 GHz : MHz band (TDD) may get auctioned in 2018 600 MHz band to be harmonized and refarmed LAA 5 GHz Unlicensed band : MHz MHz No LBT regulation
