New Directions for Curriculum Development & Faculty Development through a Consortium Approach Jess Gerrior SCC Director of Learning & Practice Ira Feldman SCC Founder & Managing Director Take a look at what we said in our first monthly newsletter - this is good! There will be some folks aware of what we’re doing but more unaware, starting from square one, need to understand genesis of this effort Launch statement from 2015 presentation - reads solid To be time-conscious, have 1-page take-away handout nicely formatted version of launch statement - incorporate this in first part of agenda summary of actions taken & advance plans for coming year series of questions: 1. What we’ve said about current state of play and why we’re doing this 2. What we’ve heard from our target audience (teaching faculty) - before and since launching, including what we heard at 2015 session in Minneapolis - go through our list to select most significant/representative highlights 3. Here’s what we promised to do and how we’ve developed our thinking in our first year of life - e.g. online dialogues, webinars, master classes - will continue to experiment with cohorts - will have faculty-only event - has become clear to us that our target audience’s thinking on curriculum & faculty development is around 3 themes: pedagogy content around emerging issues leadership 4. Here’s what we want: to hear what people believe is needed within these three themes/prongs above - help us be more specific/granular as to where to focus our efforts in strategic planning within this framework, need faculty input re: list of 5 things in last newsletter we are prepared to address follow-on from Susan/Jess pedagogy series, business, competencies, course/program structure/development, international-level innovations assumes having a room with at least 5 tables, big enough for critical mass at each: we recognize everyone has differing needs/priorities, but we are in a position to address these 5 sooner rather than later, we’d like your input on what should be addressed within these 5 topics - hopefully even find some who can help lead these efforts could send 2 groups in hallway if necessary How we will continue the dialogue after this session: Collaborase - a tool we’ve experimented with, a way to build our community of practice - what we’ve learned from the first two online dialogues (e.g., in terms of energizing people) Goals for people walking away: 1. these guys have accomplished a lot in a year 2. they have provided a way for us to connect, dialogue, develop momentum Could we find 2-3 people willing to facilitate? Institutions and academic sustainability leaders are seeking a responsive and cohesive entity to address the curriculum and professional development needs of a dynamic, diverse, and intellectually rich community that is being called to step up for the greater global good. We envision a consortium that builds our collective capacity as educators and change agents to improve the perception, modeling, and teaching of sustainability, and serves as a generator of principles, practices, and shared resources, and thus moves the education aspect of higher education sustainability up to & beyond campus operations. 2015 SCC launch statement Take a look at what we said in our first monthly newsletter - this is good!
