2 Facts About Scotland: Capital – Edinburgh. Largest city – Glasgow.
Official Languages – English,Gaelic,Scots. Government – Constitutional monarchy. Population – around 5.2 million. First minister of Scotland – Alex Salmond MSP. Currency – Pound sterling (GBP).

3 The Royal Flag of Scotland:
There is a second flag which is associated with Scotland, the “ Rampant Lion”, or Royal Flag of Scotland. King George V signed a Royal Warrant in 1934 allowing the use of the Rampant Lion flag as "a mark of royalty" because of the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations.

4 More Facts About Scotland:
National flower – Thistle. National animal – Deer . Location – United Kingdom. 3 Foods – black bun, Scottish beef and haggis.

5 The Loch Ness Monster: Since the rumour about the Loch Ness Monster stories have been told of a strange creature raising out of the dark depths of the icy cold loch, but its existence has never been proven. The lake is around 250m and 825ft deep in places.

6 The Highland Games: The Highland Games are very popular in Scotland. The events require enormous talent, skill and bravery. Participants complete in standard track and filed events, including the long and high jumps, pole vaulting, throwing the hammer and tossing the weight.

7 Food: Bannnocks ( or oatcakes):
A barley and oat – flour biscuit baked on a griddle. In modern times bannocks are often eaten with cheese. Scottish Beef: The Aberdeen – Angus breed of beef cattle are now widely reared across the world. Renown for their rich and tasty meat.

8 More Food: Black Bun: Black Bun is a very rich fruit cake, made with raisins, currants, brown sugar with the addition of cinnamon and ginger. It takes its name from the very dark colour. Crowdie: A simple white cheese, made from the whey of slightly soured milk with salt and a touch of pepper.

9 Culture: People in Scotland play the bagpipes, they have the Highland Games and they also wear kilts.
