Acquiring Images for Web Graphics
Web Design Section 5-5 Part or all of this lesson was adapted from the University of Washington’s “Web Design & Development I” Course materials
2
Objectives The Student will:
use the concepts of pixels and resolution to appropriately size images for web pages understand how file size and bandwidth limitations influence the use of web graphics
3
Acquiring Images Images can be acquired from various sources:
Camera Scanner Internet (watch the copyrights!) Each source has it’s own resolution or total number of pixels. The higher number of pixels the larger the file
4
Acquiring Images You will look at images from various sources.
Open the image in Photoshop Click on Image -> Image Size… Note the size of the image.
5
Your Photo Album Take your images and find some images from web.
The images will eventually be used to make a mini web photo album where the maximum picture size is 450 x 450 pixels. For pictures to look good on the web you should have a resolution that is larger then you need. A graphics program can be used to make the image smaller, but can't make the image larger without lowering the quality.
6
Rest of Today Find at least 6 images to be included in your Web Album
Use Photoshop to find the size of each image. Is the image greater than 450x450 pixels? See the “Suggested image websites.doc” file on the Hancock website for link to non-copyrighted web sites.
