Clerical Questions Are there any last clerical questions about any of the class requirements we have discussed over the last few days? Homework? Notebook Packets? Anything at all. Also, you will receive 3 late homework tickets for the semester.

What were some of the Significant “precedents” of the Ancient Greeks? Someone please define “precedent”? The Greeks developed political, cultural & philosophical ideas which are key foundations for many traditions in Western Civilization

“Classical” Age of Greece (1000 – 300 “B.C.”)
What do you think Classical means? BCE = Before Common Era = BC = Before Christ CE = Common Era = AD = Anno Domini (Latin for The Year of Our Lord)

Achievements of the Ancient Greeks
Intellectual – Fostered a curious, independent spirit, that valued each individual human being. Literary – Created great poems, dramas and novels. (Homer and the Odyssey) Politics - Democracy and other government structures still used today originated in some Greek city states. Astronomy – Greeks were the first people to make accurate predictions about the sun, moon and stars. Science & Math – Greeks were the first to document their investigations of events and patterns in the natural world for future generations. Created Geometry (Euclid) Philosophy –Greeks explored and documented investigations of human nature. (Ex: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle) Sports - The Greeks start the Olympic games. (so we can feel patriotic every four years) Art – Greek paintings, architecture and sculptures set the norms of classical beauty for the Western (ex: Parthenon & Acropolis) Discuss in your tables: why were the Greeks able to achieve all of these things? What made them special? Think back to World Cultures and Geography…
