16 What were they really asking him?
John 7:3 Who was planning to go? Some of his brethren, perhaps half-brothers, perhaps close relatives - felt that the festival presented an opportunity for Jesus to make a public declaration of his divine mission - (I don’t know where they’ve been for the last 2 1/2 years but he’s done that multiple times!!) But this time they are definitely “goading” him - “IF thou do these things, shew thyself to the world” v4 Jesus refuses to be goaded - rejects their suggestion John 7:3-5 What were they really asking him?

He would not return during his earthly life to this beautiful land of his childhood Jesus was leaving Galilee forever; his great Galilean ministry was ended.

John 7:6-9 Goodbye to Galilee He had a little less than 6 months left of His earth life Jesus was leaving Galilee forever; his great Galilean ministry was ended. He would not return in his life. Can you imagine what he might be sad about - The heavy weight of the supreme sacrifice he was preparing for. He had maybe a little less than 6 months left of his earth life. At the time of Jesus, one of these was the priests drawing water from the pool of Siloam and pouring it out in the holy place of the temple—symbolic of God pouring out His Holy Spirit among the people - His telling them that HE was the living water that would save them- NOT their rituals that they had ADDED to their feast - was a MAJOR turning point for some -
