Bell Work: Korea You like in Inchon, one of South Korea’s largest cities. Sometimes your grandparents tell you about the other family members who still live in North Korea. You have never met them, of course, and your grandparents have not seen them since they were children, more than 50 years ago. After hearing stories about these family members, you are curious about their lives. Would you like to visit North Korea? Why or why not? Label it “Korea.”

Bell Work: Cambodia Your family lives on a houseboat on a branch of the great Mekong River in Cambodia. You catch fish in cages under the boat. Your home is part of a floating village of houseboats and houses built on stilts in the water. Boats loaded with fruits and vegetables travel from house to house. Even your school is on a nearby boat. Write a paragraph telling how water shapes life in your village. Label it “Cambodia.” Floating Village Floating Court

Bell Work: Outback You have just taken a summer job working at a sheep station, or ranch, in Australia’s Outback. You knew the Outback would be hot, but you did not realize how hot it could get! During the day, temperatures climb to over 100° F, and it hardly ever rains. In addition, you have learned that there are no towns nearby. Your only communication with home is by radio. How will your life be different from what it is now? How will you adapt to living in the Outback? Label it “Outback.”

Bell Work: Pacific Islands You live on a small island in the South Pacific. For many years, the people on your island have made their living by fishing. Now, however, a European company has expressed interest in building an airport and a luxury hotel on your island. It hopes that tourists will be drawn by the island’s dazzling beaches and tropical climate. The company’s leaders want your permission before they build. Will you give them permission? Why or why not? Label it “Pacific Islands.”
