Math- We just finished our first math unit. Although addition , subtraction, and place value is not our main focus we continue to play games and go over strategies to add and subtract 2-digit numbers as math warm-ups. This week we are reviewing how to tell time to the nearest hour, half hour, and minute as well as reading temperatures on a thermometer. Later this week we will be starting a unit on data and graphing.  In this unit, the students will learn to categorize data and represent that data in different types of graphs.  The main types of graphs we will work on during this unit will be bar graphs, pictographs, and line plots. A big part of this unit is not only being able to read the graphs, but to analyze the information in the graphs.
Language Arts- This week we are still working on character traits in language arts.  For reading, the students will work on and perform reader’s theater plays.  The purpose of reader's theater is to practice reading fluency as well as comprehension. Next week, we will start a unit on main idea for guided reading and language arts skill.
Science-We have been learning about soil in science. In this unit, the students will learn about the different types of soil, the importance of soil, and where it comes from.  The students will also have a few different opportunities to participate in soil observations and hands-on activities. We will have a test on soil Thursday, October 26th.

Scholastic book flyers for October went home about a week ago. If you would like to purchase any books from Scholastic please use the class code to order the books online. I will not submit the October order until October 27th, so you still have time to place an order 
The students have been logging on to some great learning websites at school. Each student has a labels in their agenda for some of these websites. There are also a lot of sites on our classroom website under Classroom Resources for your child to practice reading and math skills.
