There is marked destruction of the ankle with severe instability and deformity that is not treatable with bracing. D, E: The ankle is stabilized with an arthrodesis using intramedullary fixation and returns the patient to an ambulatory status requiring a rocker-bottom shoe and an accommodative insert.
