Conceptual Framework for an ADN Program Robin Roberts, Elizabeth Starr, Cheryl Taylor, Elizabeth Tilley NURS 5327 The University of Texas at Tyler - College of Nursing and Health Sciences SYNTHESIS of EDUCATION When discussing the curricula of any academic program is it important to discuss the use of technology and distance learning that will be utilized in such a program. Theory of Planned Behavior was created by Bamberg, Ajzen & Schmidt in 2003 and it combines three considerations: beliefs about likely consequences of the behavior (behavioral beliefs) beliefs about the normative expectations of others (normative beliefs), and beliefs about the presence of factors that may further or hinder performance of the behavior (control beliefs). Distance education has transformed the classroom. Research shows that student’s beliefs influence their intention to adopt e-learning. It is believed that students that truly adapt to mobile learning can find themselves in a learning environment that is “personalized, situated, and authentic” (Tagoe & Abakah, 2014, pg. 93). SYNTHESIS of NURSING Nursing is compassionate, holistic, and caring. These attributes are what Jean Watson emphasized in her caring theory. We as nurses should seek to provide wellness and illness prevention all while serving the patient. Watson does not remove the science of medicine from the need to demonstrate a caring attitude, but rather insists they work together on either end of the spectrum; coinciding to benefit the patient (Warelow, 2013). As nurse educators it is imperative we demonstrate a caring attitude towards patients; thus inviting students to join the nursing field and provide the highest level of compassionate care.
