From: Group A Streptococcal Infections Red Book® 2015, 2015 Figure Legend: A 6-year-old with sore throat and fever for the past 48 hours. He awoke with fine red bumps over his arms, legs, and trunk. He has a headache and complains of a stomachache, but no diarrhea or vomiting. On examination he had tonsillar exudate, palatal petechiae including "donut petechiae," and tender anterior cervical adenopathy. His rash consists of discrete papules that his mother describes as slightly red. Culture was positive for Streptococcus pyogenes, confirming the diagnosis of scarlatina. He was treated with penicillin. He had minor peeling of the skin of his fingertips about 2 weeks after treatment.
