When and why we use each one

2. Quick Note
Everytime you say "I like" or "I love" a food, you will need to use the definite article (el, la, los, las) that applies to the food.
Ex. I like bananas. Me gustan los plátanos.
I do not like soup. No me gusta la sopa.
I like fruits. Me encantan las frutas.
I do not love coffee. No me encanta el café.

3. Me gusta
We learned this in unit 1. This translates to "I like." (Literally, it is translated to "It is pleasing to me").
We can use this to say: I like pizza.
Me gusta la pizza.
We can also use this to say I like to run.
Me gusta correr.

4. Me gustan
Me gustan means the same this as me gusta. The difference is that one must use gustan when talking about a plural noun.
Ex. I like the grapes. Me gustan las uvas.
Grapes is plural in Spanish, so we need to use the verb gustan instead of gusta.

5. Make it negative
In order to make the phrase negative, we add the "no" before the "me."
Ex. I do not like milk. No me gusta la leche.
It is the same with the plural "gustan."
Ex. I do not like french fries. No me gustan las papas fritas.

7. Me encanta
"Me encanta" means "I love." (When translated literally it means it is charming to me).
We can use this verb to say you love a food or activity.
Ex. I love bacon. Me encanta el tocino.

8. Me encantan
Same as with gusta/gustan, encanta turns into encantan when talking about a plural noun.
Ex. I love cookies. Me encantan las galletas.

9. Make it negative
In order to make "encanta" negative, you add the "no" in front of the "me." (It's the same sentence structure as gusta.)
Ex. I do not love cereal. No me encanta el cereal.
Same with the plural.
Ex. I do not love bananas. No me encantan los plátanos.
