ITS support ends on Nov. 1, 2013 ITS recommends a computer with Windows 7 Microsoft ends support on April 8, 2014 KCC will revoke network access to systems not running Windows 7 MARY

Actions Taken Conducted physical campus inventory for the past 2 months Gathered other data directly from departments Reviewed standard configurations for computers “Additional Allocations” have been consulted and are currently in process

Inventory Results 1975 Total Computers (95% complete)
1675 PC 300 Apple Oldest computer was purchased in 2001 1428 of PC computers with no warranty at the end of 2013 920 of those need Windows 7 license upgrade MARY

Costs Best case scenario Windows 7 purchase 920 X $56 = ($51,520)
Every PC running Windows 7 Every PC under warranty Windows 7 purchase 920 X $56 = ($51,520) PC cost an estimated $1,200 Every computer on campus covered under warranty and running windows 7 would cost an estimated $1.7 million

Observations Department inventories are not kept current
Lots of old hardware not being e-wasted Faculty have resorted to bringing in personally owned technology as they wait for updated computers and printers Many computer carts are underutilized and not being kept up Few personal Wi-Fi Access points

Moving Forward Consultations on purchases will continue as needed
CELTT will advise departments on techniques for better inventory management E-waste process needs to be revisited, documented and marketed better to campus Apple support process is a workload issue and needs to be addressed
