1 Asexual Propagation Seed Potato Cutting

2 Asexual Propagation To reproduce without the union of male and female sex cells A new plant can be produced by using a piece of an existing plant Dahlia – a flower that reproduces asexually

3 Division & Separation Division Separation
A method of propagation requiring the cutting and dividing of plants Cut parts have the ability to develop into a new plant, providing that they contain the correct plant material Iris Dahlia Potato Method of propagation that occurs naturally in which reproductive organs of a plant detach from the parent to become new plants Parent plants produce removable structures that from the new plants Tulip Lily Crocus

4 Tuber Fleshy root that reproduces by growing roots from an eye/bud
A tuber is actually a swollen end of an underground side shoot or stem

5 Bud/Eye Each eye will produce a sprout and each sprout is a separate plant. The sprout will continue to grow as well as produce a new root. As the sprout extends from the potato, it uses the fleshy inside part of the potato as its food source until the plant is able to grow leaves.

6 There are many species of potatoes and they can all be propagated asexually because each and every one contains eyes or buds. Are any eyes visible on the potato to the right?
